Charlie King is well known in the Napanee area for his musical talent, his deep bass singing voice and his company, King Sound. Piano, fiddle, lead guitar and bass guitar are his instruments of choice. He started his first country band, The Harmony Kings at age 16. The name was changed to Shylo after several years and that group entertained and played for dances for fifty years. He still plays at jams and concerts and entertains at seniors' events, and is part of the band at his home church in Napanee.
Charlie began providing sound systems as a teenager and that eventually grew into King Sound, a respected business of PA rentals, permanent sound installations, fully manned concert set-ups and PA systems for county fairs as well as equipment and instrument repairs.
He helped produce a number of variety shows to assist Seniors Outreach Services purchase a vehicle for transporting disabled persons. He has provided sound for Napanee Valley Jamborees, Napanee's Hometown Country Jamborees and many other jamborees in the surrounding area.
Charlie has performed in several Gospel Groups such as "Happiness" that appeared on CKWS-TV, "Jericho Road" and "The Old Hims", all of whom have produced CDs. He spent nineteen years going to Pennsylvania annually to run the sound for their huge Southern Gospel Music weekend, with most of the popular Gaither style quartets taking a turn on the stage.
Community service is high on his list as well. Charlie has been on the Napanee Fair Board for around forty years. He is a charter member of the Napanee Municipal Arts & Culture Advisory Committee which presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
