Don Johnson – Posthumous

Don grew up on the family farm on the south shore of Beaver Lake, just west of Tamworth. At an early age it was evident that Don was more inclined to mastering the violin rather than the daily chore of milking cows and farming. Don played the usual weddings and parties which ultimately led to his forming an orchestra, the “Serenaders”, which lasted for nearly three decades. Don and his troubadours played almost an average of four to five nights a week at dances in Leeds, Frontenac, L&A, Prince Edward and Hastings Counties.

In the late sixties Don and his orchestra began a long running radio show on CKWS Kingston, later moving the weekly show to CKLC.

For over three decades, Don and his troupe entertained thousands, becoming renowned as one of the best dance bands throughout the region.

Don passed a little over ten years ago at Village Green Nursing Home in Selby. He is survived by his daughter Donna and leaves many memories of one of the greatest fiddle players to have performed throughout the region.
