Joan and Roy Shepherd are best known for their involvement in jams throughout south-eastern Ontario. Wherever they were there was sure to be music and some sort of open mic jam going on. They’ve been at the heart of Amherst Island Radio, on the Ellis Wolfrey Show, The Parham Hall Trillium Foundation, the Sunbury Jam, the Newburg Jam as well as numerous musical events such as the Kingston, Parham and Centreville Fairs. But they are best known as the creative force behind the Bedford Jam, held bi-weekly. Joan and Roy, along with Homer and Wilhelmine Card started the Piccadilly Jam in 2007.
As it grew beyond all expectation, they moved the event to the old Glendover School, which was the Bedford Hall in 2009. The Bedford Jam continues to grow in popularity because of its’ welcoming nature to open mic participants. The music varies from Bluegrass to Old Country and beyond with Gospel, Celtic and Folk music regularly performed. Because of Joan and Roy’s welcoming nature, the jam continues to grow as a celebration of music and friendship.
