Doug was born and raised in Stirling and never began his musical career until he was offered a position as a vocalist with the Country Rebels (1965-68). Not playing a musical instrument, Doug worked feverishly at learning the guitar. The Country Rebels performed those days almost exclusively in Prince Edward County playing for the dance crowds on weekends. Doug's quick wit and humour soon made him a crowd favourite.
After the Country Rebels disbandment in 1968, Doug went on to form his own group the Hangmen which played the bar and tavern circuit for the next 25 years performing weekend gigs in Hastings, Prince Edward, Northumberland, Lennox and Addington and Peterborough Counties. After 28 years Doug retired from actively performing. Doug and his wife Joyce now reside in Belleville.
